Debris 005 - Rachael Campbell-Palmer
TITLE
Debris 005
ARTIST
Rachael Campbell-Palmer
ABOUT THE WORK
Debris is a series of hand cast sculptures. The work is informed by fragments of breeze blocks found in alleyways in Belfast, and offcuts of wood leftover from building larger works and site specific installations. This discarded matter was used to design moulds created by the artist. The pieces were arranged in various formations and fused together through the casting process to create new objects, landscapes and terrains. Material choices in Jesmonite and resin transform original surface states, elevating detail, texture and form
Each sculpture is hand cast from original silicone moulds designed by the artist. This work is one out of a collection of ten pieces commissioned by Uphold. The form is an edition of five, with each version cast in a unique material combination meaning no replications are created.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rachael Campbell-Palmer’s practice addresses seriality and architecture. She works with concrete, plaster and resin; materials that in production and exhibition, she situates between the industrial and the hand-crafted. Using traditional casting processes the work explores the slippages of material surface, considering associations between physical space and cognitive experience, drawing connections between materiality, weight, the urban landscape, environmental and structural design.
