ARTIST
Jan McCullough
ABOUT THE WORK
In our consumption-led society, where desires are shaped by advertising and the photographic image, a ‘better life’ has been commodified and can be bought and built. #2 from the series Constructions, explores analogies of the factory, how photography connects with individualized and collective self improvement, DIY (Do-It-Yourself) processes, and how it can be used as a tool to generate actual, and imagined, agency.
The work was the results of series of site specific studio experiments at PS2 Gallery, Belfast; building ad-hoc constructions in response to materials available in the space.
This work consists of a professionally framed photograph printed on archival pigment paper, mounted on aluminium composite sheet (Dibond) which is specially optimised for display.
