THOMAS WELLS IS AN ARTIST BASED IN NORTHERN IRELAND WHO is particularly interested in collective practice and exploring methodologies of collaboration. They create narratives and tell tales that explore identity, and family life. They love the dissolving of the truth into fiction as stories are retold which result in the creation of myths.

 

ARTIST BIO

 

Thomas Wells was born in Manchester and graduated from The Glasgow School of Art: Sculpture and Environmental Art (2009) and later from King’s College London (2014). They live and work in Belfast. Thomas is supported by the Freelands Foundation Artist Programme at PS², Belfast N.I. (2019-2021) and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and has just completed a two year directorship at Catalyst Arts, Belfast N.I. (2019-2021). Recent collaborative exhibitions and performances include HOUR at Performance Art Bergen, Norway (2020), Pass the Baby Under the Donkey, an online installation with Household at St Josephs Church, Belfast (2020), Sam's Eden, curatorial project at Catalyst Arts, a collaborative project with 13 LGBTQ+ artists exploring non verbal themes of communication in LGBTQ History (2021) and As Others See Us, Collaborate! at Jerwood Arts, London (2019) Thomas is also a member of the Array Collective, an arts and activist collective who have most recently been nominated for the Turner Prize 2021 and will present new work as part of Coventry City of Culture at The Herbet in 2021.

THOMAS DRAWS PARALLELS BETWEEN PLACES THROUGH CONNECTIONS TO THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES AND EXPLORE THIS FURTHER THROUGH CREATING PERFORMANCES THAT INCLUDE VIDEO, VOICE AND A LITTLE BIT OF MOVEMENT.
